John McCain was on the road throughout the week, talking to voters in California, Texas, Georgia, and Alabama about the big challenges facing our country. He also took the fight to leading national Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, for tucking millions of dollars in earmarks to a defense bill, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, for his harsh criticisms of both the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Peter Pace, and the commander of our forces in Iraq, David Petraeus. John McCain called on Harry Reid to clarify his criticisms, given the two generals' distinguished records of service. Also this week, Cindy McCain made the rounds on the morning talk shows to discuss her work with Operation Smile, while Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty made his way to Iowa to talk about why John McCain is the candidate most prepared to lead our country in these challenging times.

John McCain Straight Talk
John McCain On ABC's "This Week"

Straight Talk On The Consequences Of Failure In Iraq:"If they gain control of Iraq, they'll be sitting on one of the world's largest supplies of oil. They'll have ample areas to train and equip and export terror."I think it would give them enormous advantage, the fact that they had defeated us and the fact that they now have a base of operations and also a source of recruitment."
Straight Talk On Immigration: "It's a national security issue, as I keep trying to say. We can't - the status quo is de facto amnesty. They're all opposed to amnesty. Well, if you do nothing, then we have silent amnesty, if you don't do something about the 12 million people because they're just going to stay here and remain doing whatever they're doing, which unfortunately, we don't know in the case of a lot of them."
Straight Talk On Health Care: "I think that we can make health care affordable and available without a mandate. Million[s of] children that haven't taken advantage of the SCHIP is because they just haven't signed up. Community health centers need to be expanded. There's a whole variety of things that we can do before we mandate health care for every American."

Cindy McCain On Operation Smile Medical Mission In Vietnam And Husband John McCain
Cindy McCain:
"[O]peration Smile does cleft palate repair surgeries all over the world and Vietnam is one of the larger countries that they deal with. I joined them on a mission in Vietnam and the reason I'm involved with Operation Smile is not only because of the work that they do, but as you know, we have a daughter with a cleft palate and that's what brought me to them. They repair all kinds of facial deformities all around the world for a mere $250. It's an amazing organization, just marvelous."
Cindy McCain: "[My husband's] positions are his positions. He takes them not because of a polling number. He takes them because he believes in them and believes that's best for our country. He will continue to do that. My husband is not one that follows polling numbers. He's a leader. So each of these positions and each of the stances that he has taken come from not only what he believes in but what's in his heart. He does what's right, not just what's good for the polling numbers."
